Brentford – Manchester City Predictions and Preview
- Brentford are back in the Premier League after a shock FA Cup defeat to Plymouth Argyle, the bottom team in the Championship, on Saturday (1-0). It was just their second defeat in seven competitive matches, following a draw with Southampton last time out (1-1). They are still comfortably in the middle of the table, but they are showing signs that they might be losing their home turf advantage, having lost their last three games at the Gtech Community Stadium.
- The one win in their recent run came in their last league game against Southampton, which they won by a handsome 5-0 scoreline. However, goals have been tough to come by lately, with the Bees failing to score more than a single goal in six other games in that poor run. They have only two wins from ten games against teams starting the round inside the top ten (D1, L7), which doesn’t boost their confidence ahead of Manchester City’s visit.
- Manchester City have finally started to rediscover some of the form we’ve come to expect from the reigning champions. They have avoided defeat in each of their past four competitive matches (W3, D1). The most recent was an 8-0 hammering of League Two’s Salford City, meaning another win here would see them secure four wins on the bounce for the first time since October.
- While City have had a campaign to forget so far, they have maintained their supremacy on the road against bottom ten sides, with no defeat in their four such matches against those teams (W3, D1). Three straight home-and-home wins for Guardiola’s men should also boost hopes that they can do what’s needed here to climb back in the league’s top five, even if it may only be for 24 hours.
- Players to watch: Only Mohamed Salah (13) and Bukayo Saka (10) have provided more Premier League assists this season than Brentford’s Mikkel Damsgaard (seven). Savinho has been involved in four goals in his last two Premier League appearances for Man City (G1, A3), twice as many as he had in his first 15 (A2).
- Hot stat: Brentford have lost more Premier League games having scored the first goal than any other side this season (five).
