Monza – Fiorentina Predictions and Preview
- The situation for Monza in Serie A looks quite grim at the halfway point of the season. They are at the bottom of the table and seven points from safety. This is worrying because 33 of the last 35 teams that were at the bottom of the league after matchday 19 were relegated.
- Monza are on a five-match losing streak in the Italian top flight, which is the longest such run in their history. They have lost all five games by a 2-1 scoreline. However, that is just the beginning of their problems. They have not won in 11 Serie A games (3 draws, 8 losses), and they have won just one of their last 28 league games (10 draws, 17 losses). Even that one win came on the road, so there seems little hope that Monza can claim a second win of the campaign at the U-Power Stadium, where they have lost their last five league games, all by a single-goal margin.
- Fiorentina, on the other hand, seem much brighter. They start this round only three points behind the top four and have a crucial game in hand. You would expect them to be confident, but they have not won in five games in all competitions (2 draws, 3 losses). A clash against Monza could be the perfect way for them to get back on track.
- Fiorentina have won their last seven Serie A matches against teams that start the round at the bottom of the table. The last five of them were won by a single goal, so this clash could be one-sided. There is an extra layer of excitement because Fiorentina boss Raffaele Palladino returns to the club he left in the summer. He hopes to secure a better result than the 2-2 he managed in the reverse match. Never before have both league H2Hs been drawn in the same season.
- Players to watch: Gianluca Caprari has scored more Serie A goals against Fiorentina than any other team (five), four of which came before half-time. Moise Kean, the Fiorentina striker, will be out to steal the limelight in the first half. He has scored eight of his 11 league goals this term in the opening 45 minutes.
- Hot stat: Fiorentina are the only Serie A side yet to concede a goal in the opening 15 minutes of a league game this season.
