Venezia – Lecce Predictions and Preview

  • Venezia and Lecce are separated by only one point at the beginning of this round, and they both find themselves in the relegation zone. This makes the game feel like a real struggle even at this early stage.
  • After 12 matches, only two points separate the bottom six teams, so a victory here could help Venezia get out of the danger zone. They have been in decent form lately, having scored half of their seasonal points in their last four matches (one win, one draw, two losses). However, they did lose their last two games.
  • Both of their wins this league season have come at home, and the Winged Lions will be hoping to add to that record with what would be their first ever top-flight home win (two draws, two losses). A victory would also continue their alternating pattern of results at this venue (two wins, three losses), a theme they hope to see continue after losing in their last game here.
  • Lecce secured four points in their three matches before the international break (one win, one draw, one loss), which injected some life into their campaign after a run of five consecutive defeats. However, it couldn’t prevent a change in the dugout as Marco Giampaolo has replaced Luca Gotti as coach. His immediate task is to improve their scoring record, as their tally of five goals is the lowest across the big-five European leagues so far this season.
  • Their scoring problems have been particularly noticeable on the road. The visitors haven’t scored in their last seven top-flight away matches, including six this season, which makes them the only team yet to score on the road in Serie A. Lecce could now become only the third club in Serie A history to start an away campaign with seven consecutive scoring blanks, although positively, the last two such teams both escaped relegation.
  • Players to watch:
    * Hans Nicolussi Caviglia scored in Venezia’s last two home games. In his last four scoring club appearances, the away side scored exactly twice.
    * Nikola Krstović scored a hat-trick for Montenegro in his last match and scored the opening match goal with five of his last eight top-flight strikes.
  • Hot stat: Four of Lecce’s last six matches, including their last three on the road, saw exactly one goal scored.
