Torino – Cagliari Predictions and Preview
- The recent form of Torino has left many experts puzzled. Despite being down a goal and a man against Fiorentina in their last match, Paolo Vanoli’s team fought back to earn their fourth consecutive Serie A draw. Considering they trailed in three of those four matches, things could have been much worse.
- Last time they shared the spoils in five consecutive top-flight matches was back in February 2021. If they can equal that streak this time, their four-point advantage over those in the relegation zone could tighten. However, getting back into the win column is far from guaranteed, as they welcome Cagliari to the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino. They have beaten Cagliari just twice in the last 11 head-to-heads (D5, L4).
- In the most recent match, Cagliari won 3-2 in the reverse fixture in October, setting up a chance to claim their first league double over Torino since the 2012-13 campaign. They will see this as a golden opportunity to achieve just that, as they arrive riding a three-game unbeaten run (W2, D1), which includes a resounding 4-1 win over Lecce at the weekend.
- The Islanders will be wary that they haven’t been the best at harnessing momentum recently. Their last back-to-back Serie A wins were in March last year. Manager Davide Nicola would love nothing more than to fix this at the home of his former employers, against whom he has claimed successive wins despite going his first ten managerial meetings with Torino without victory (D3, L6).
- Players to watch: If Torino start well, Nikola Vlašić could make a positive impact. In four of his last five goalscoring outings, he has netted their second goal of the game. Nadir Zortea is in the form of his life. He has scored in his last three matches, with the first two coming away from home, proving that he’s happy to upset home fans!
- Hot stat: Torino have lost just two of the last 30 Serie A matches they’ve started as the betting favourite (W14, D14).
