Stuttgart – B. Monchengladbach Predictions and Preview
- Before last weekend’s trip to Mainz, Stuttgart had won eight out of ten games in all competitions (one draw and one loss). They were getting closer to the top three in the Bundesliga. However, after a 2-0 defeat on the road to Mainz, they suffered a 4-1 defeat at home against Paris Saint-Germain in midweek. With the confirmation of their exit from the UEFA Champions League, Stuttgart is now five points behind the top three in the Bundesliga before the round.
- Sebastian Hoeneß’s team is still aiming for a second consecutive European finish. This weekend, they have a chance to record three home league wins for the first time this season. The odds look positive, as Stuttgart has beaten their opponents, Borussia Mönchengladbach, 44 times in the Bundesliga so far. They have not beaten any other club more often.
- From Mönchengladbach’s perspective, history doesn’t look any better. The Foals have only conceded more away goals in the Bundesliga against Bayern Munich (137) and Borussia Dortmund (118) than Stuttgart (110). However, Gerardo Seoane’s team picked up all three points against struggling Bochum last time out to end a run of three straight defeats and still have their own European ambitions.
- Four points below the top six ahead of the round, and only five points behind Stuttgart in fourth place, the Foals have won all seven of the league games in which they scored first so far this season. This shows a strong resilience to see games out when ahead. The importance of the first goal to them this weekend is evident even further. Seoane’s side won just one of the 11 Bundesliga matches this term in which they conceded first (D2, L8).
- Players to watch:
* Ermedin Demirović has four goal involvements (G2, A2) in his last three head-to-heads with Gladbach, including a brace in this season’s reverse fixture.
* Julian Weigl was booked in that clash. He has six yellow cards to his name already this season and has been cautioned in three of the pair’s last four head-to-heads. - Hot stat: Six of Stuttgart’s eight first-half home league goals this season came before the 20th minute.
