Napoli – Lecce Predictions and Preview
- Napoli celebrated a 1-0 victory over Empoli last weekend, marking their sixth success in their last seven league games (D1). After eight rounds, they are two points clear at the top of Serie A. This game against Lecce may be their last “easier” match for a while, as it comes before fixtures against AC Milan, Atalanta, Inter Milan, and AS Roma. This period could make or break their title charge.
- The Partenopei cannot overlook their next opponent. They are winless in their last three home games (D2, L1), including a goalless draw last season. However, Napoli have won each of their six home games this season, including four in the league, scoring ten goals in such games. They should be feeling confident to host again.
- Such attacking power is just a pipe dream for Lecce based on their current form. After eight rounds, they have scored a league-low three goals, which is a major reason why they are only a point above the basement club Venezia ahead of this round. The away side have lost their last four matches “to nil” and have also failed to score in their last two home games. This hints at why their drab attacking displays are not expected to improve here.
- Not only that, but the Yellow and Reds have failed to score in their last five away league games (D2, L3), a sequence that started at this venue last season. That match did at least end in a goalless draw, marking their first top-flight H2H clean sheet since November 1997.
- Players to watch: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia had to wait beyond the hour mark for three of his four league goals this season, but all four came in wins with clean sheets. Nikola Krstović could precede him on the scoresheet as six of his last eight league goals have come before the hour mark, including four that served as the match-opener.
- Hot stat: Lecce’s last six league games have produced five red cards.
