Monaco – Lille Predictions and Preview

  • Monaco is eager for the international break to end and return to Ligue 1 action. Their near-perfect and unbeaten start (6 wins, 1 draw) has placed them at the top of the table. This is the fourth time in their Ligue 1 history that they have started a campaign without defeat through seven matches. Their 19 points are the most they have accumulated at this stage since 1960-61, when they won their first top-flight trophy with 21 points.
  • Their dominance this term is not a new phenomenon. No team has won more Ligue 1 games this calendar year than Monaco’s 16, making them equal with PSG for the most points earned in 2024 (53). The Stade Louis II has played its part in achieving these heights, with Adi Hütter’s men winning seven of their last eight home league matches (D1).
  • Lille, who are currently fifth in the table, also gained some momentum before the international break with three wins. These included 3-0 and 2-1 victories over Le Havre and Toulouse in league action. In between those results, they won a marquee victory that proved their capabilities when they beat Real Madrid 1-0 in the UEFA Champions League.
  • Continuing that winning streak here will be difficult for Lille, not only because of their hosts’ red-hot form but also because they haven’t won any of their last 12 Ligue 1 visits to Monaco (D7, L5). Manager Bruno Génésio will be preparing himself for a back-and-forth war as he bids to end that run. In ten of his 13 previous meetings with Monaco, both teams got on the scoresheet.
  • Players to watch: Teenager Eliesse Ben Seghir has scored his last four goals for Monaco between the 60th and 75th minutes. These goals have often proved vital, with three of them serving as the match winner. However, his efforts may be in vain if Lille’s Edon Zhegrova has his usual say. He has scored four of his last six club goals after the 75th minute.
  • Hot stat: The same half-time result has been replicated at full-time in ten of Lille’s last 12 away matches.
