Lecce – Verona Predictions and Preview

  • It seems that Lecce’s current downward spiral has no end in sight. Their latest defeat, a 1-0 loss to Napoli, is the fourth consecutive defeat in Serie A for Luca Gotti’s team.
  • On Saturday, the Giallorossi survived a barrage of attacks to keep the scoreline respectable. However, their lack of effectiveness in front of goal is the main reason they are in the relegation zone. All those league defeats, as well as another one in the Coppa Italia, came without Lecce scoring.
  • In fact, Gotti’s team has scored just three times in Serie A this season, which is the fewest goals scored among teams in Europe’s traditional top five leagues. Lecce have failed to score in 18 top-flight matches in 2024, also the most in Europe’s top leagues.
  • The home fans have a right to be concerned about both ends of the pitch after their team was hammered 6-0 by Fiorentina in their last outing at the Stadio Via del Mare!
  • Hellas Verona, the upcoming opponents of Lecce, also faced a humiliating defeat on Saturday. They left the Gewiss Stadium defeated 6-1 by Atalanta. This is the first time in their history that they have started a top-flight campaign without a draw in their opening nine games.
  • Manager Paolo Zanetti will be thinking a draw could be on the cards given his track record against Lecce. He has drawn more than half his 11 games against them as a player and manager (W3, D6, L2). He will be looking to take advantage of Lecce’s poor form in front of goal and continue his side’s recent winning streak in this fixture. Verona have won five of the last six home-and-away matches without conceding (D1).
  • Players to watch: With goals hard to come by for Lecce, they will turn to their home-based players such as Balthazar Pierret, who has scored his last four goals on home soil. Verona’s Casper Tengstedt will be looking for another quick start since his last two goals have come in the opening ten minutes.
  • Hot stat: The same half-time result has been replicated at full-time in six of the last eight H2Hs.
