Lazio – Verona Predictions and Preview

  • Lazio has had a perfect start to the Serie A season, with one win, one draw, and one loss. The team can take heart from the fact that all their points came on home soil.
  • Lazio has been lucky enough to host three of their first four league games at the Stadio Olimpico. Their next match is against Hellas Verona, which Lazio should be excited about, considering they have an unbeaten home record of seven games (W5, D2).
  • The capital club has been just as strong in home H2H matches, suffering just one defeat in the last 17 matches they hosted (W12, D4). New Lazio coach Marco Baroni will definitely want to see another win added to the list, especially since he will face the team he managed last season. However, he has only won one of six personal H2Hs against Verona, losing each of the last three matches.
  • Paolo Zanetti replaced Baroni as the coach of Verona. He has impressed in his new role, leading his team to two wins in their first three league games (L1). Facing a Lazio side where he has never won a managerial H2H match (D1, L3) might be challenging, but a 2-0 away win against Genoa before the international break should give him a big confidence boost.
  • Verona has shown impressive away league form recently, losing just one of their last six Serie A road trips (W3, D2). However, that defeat came against Lazio! History suggests there is a strong possibility that the draw column will even out against the wins here. Seven of Verona’s last 11 Monday-held Serie A games have ended in a draw (W2, L2).
  • Players to watch: Lazio’s Taty Castellanos has scored in both their home league games this season. He has scored the second goal in all five of his home scoring appearances for the club. Verona’s Jackson Tchatchoua usually plays an active role on the field, either scoring or receiving a yellow card in all four of his club appearances this season (G1, YC3).
  • Hot stat: Verona is one of three Serie A teams that have yet to score a first-half goal before the round.
