Lazio – Como Predictions and Preview

  • Lazio lost to Roma 2-0 in the Derby della Capitalle on Sunday, marking their third Serie A defeat in six games (W2, D1). This setback has affected their chances in the top four race this season, as they are only three points behind Juventus and Fiorentina in fifth and sixth places, respectively.
  • Marco Baroni’s team will now try to avoid consecutive league losses for the first time since last March as they aim for a fourth home-and-away win in a row against Como. This run includes a 5-1 win earlier in the season, contributing to Lazio scoring 11 goals in their last three home-and-away matches. The hosts have a good chance to extend their scoring run here, averaging 2.43 goals per game in their first seven home league games this season (W6, D1), although they scored only one goal in their last two home league matches (D1, L1).
  • Como could try to take advantage of these scoring vulnerabilities. They should be confident after winning two of their last three league games by a 2-0 scoreline, including against Lazio’s city rivals Roma! This positive surge has lifted them one point above the bottom three, and another win here could potentially push them closer to the top ten. However, they shouldn’t get too excited just yet.
  • Head coach Cesc Fàbregas still has to find a way to win on the road. The Biancoblù have been winless away from home since October (D2, L4). Both of their last three trips ended in draws, with Como leading at least until the hour mark. The visitors will hope to sustain this momentum if they want to end their wait for a first away home-and-away win since March 1952.
  • Key battle: Boulaye Dia assisted two goals in the reverse fixture. He will hope to score again here, having netted three of his last four league goals at this venue. Como goalkeeper Pepe Reina will be aiming to stop his former employers. He has kept four clean sheets in his last seven personal home-and-away matches.
  • Hot stat: A combined eight red cards were shown in Lazio’s last 12 league matches, including two in the reverse fixture.
