Lazio – Cagliari Predictions and Preview
- Lazio has moved closer to the top of Serie A after ten matches this season thanks to their impressive 5-1 win over Como on Thursday. This victory was the seventh in a row for the Biancocelesti, and they have won by at least two goals in each of their last three matches.
- At the Stadio Olimpico, Lazio seems to be unstoppable. Only Napoli has scored more points at home in Serie A this season (W4, D1), and Lazio has earned 13 points in four wins and one draw. Last Sunday, the capital club defeated Genoa 3-0, their fourth consecutive win on home soil. In this run, Marco Baroni’s team has scored 11 goals, and they have scored at least twice in all six home matches this season (W5, D1).
- Cagliari, on the other hand, started the season promisingly with four unbeaten matches (W3, D1) and eight goals scored. However, they have since suffered back-to-back defeats to nil. In fact, only lowly Lecce (seven) has failed to find the net in more Serie A matches this season than Davide Nicola’s side (six). Cagliari start this round just a point above the relegation zone.
- Cagliari’s last away trip ended in a 2-0 defeat against Udinese, their fourth league loss on the road in seven such outings (W2, D1). The Sardinians especially need to improve their starts to games. They have trailed 1-0 at half-time in three of their four matches on the road this season, with the exception being their spectacular 3-2 win against Parma.
- Players to watch: After scoring a brace at Como, Taty Castellanos has now scored three of his five Serie A goals this term in the opening 30 minutes. Răzvan Marin, Cagliari’s striker, has recently put together a four-game scoring run for club or country, converting a penalty in three of those encounters.
- Hot stat: Lazio have scored in both halves in four of their six home matches this season, including the last three such games.
