Juventus – Como Predictions and Preview

  • After Massimiliano Allegri left the club at the end of the previous season, Juventus started a new chapter in their history under the leadership of Thiago Motta. Motta, who had led Bologna to UEFA Champions League qualification the previous season, will be coaching in the top European league this season. Despite a challenging end to the season, the Bianconeri finished third and returned to the Champions League after a year’s absence.
  • Juve has strengthened their midfield by signing players such as Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa and Khéphren Thuram from Nice. They are also strongly linked with Teun Koopmeiners from Atalanta. The Allianz Stadium seems like the perfect venue for Motta to begin his work, as Juventus have only lost four league matches at home in the last two seasons. They have won their home league openers in seven of the last ten years, with only one draw and two losses.
  • This means that the upcoming match against Como will be a tough challenge for Juventus. Como finished second in the Serie B last season, ending a 21-year wait for top-flight football. The team has achieved this remarkable feat despite being in the fourth tier of Italian football as recently as 2019. Legendary figures are now a common sight at Como, with manager Cesc Fábregas leading the team. Fábregas has signed a four-year deal ahead of this season and has added players like Raphaël Varane to his squad.
  • Adding players at the end of their careers comes with risks, but Varane, described as a “real leader” by coach Fábregas, had to leave the field due to injury just 23 minutes into his debut for Como. They were eliminated from the Coppa Italia by second-tier Sampdoria. However, they hope that losing doesn’t become a habit as they fight for survival.
  • Players to watch include Dušan Vlahović, who scored 16 league goals for Juventus last season, including four strikes against newly-promoted opposition. Andrea Belotti will be looking to rebuild his career with Como. This could be an ideal platform for him, as he has already scored four goals against Juventus when he was playing for Torino. However, none of those led to victory for his team (D1, L3).
  • Hot stat: Five of Juventus’ six last season’s matches against Serie A newcomers saw both teams score (JUV: W3, D3).
