Inter – Fiorentina Predictions and Preview

  • In mid-week, Inter Milan missed the chance to move to the top of Serie A after losing 3-0 to Fiorentina in a game that had to be rescheduled due to a medical incident. Four days later, the two teams meet again, and Inter is looking to avenge their biggest league defeat since May 2019. Having won five of their last eight Serie A home games (with three draws), they seem well-placed to bounce straight back.
  • In the last four of those games, Inter scored at least twice, so the chances of losing two consecutive league matches for the first time since April 2023 seem slim. The second game in that sequence nearly two years ago was a 1-0 home defeat against Fiorentina, but a repeat result seems unlikely given that it’s the only home winless game Inter have suffered in their last nine such meetings (W6, D2).
  • Fiorentina’s mid-week win extended their winning league run to three matches, which has been the perfect way to bounce back from their six-game winless Serie A streak prior (D2, L4). Without that negative run, La Viola would probably have a strong grip on a top four spot, but instead they’re battling to stay in there, with only goal difference keeping them in fourth ahead of the round.
  • Facing a Simone Inzaghi-managed side may throw a spanner in the works as far as staying there goes, as Thursday’s win was just Fiorentina’s third from their last 17 such matches (D3, L11). That record makes for bleak reading, and a run of just two wins from their last 14 Monday-held Serie A away games (D5, L7) won’t be a source of inspiration either.
  • Players to watch: Marcus Thuram, Inter’s striker, hasn’t scored in five league games, and he may have to be patient to end that drought given that his last four Serie A goals all came after the hour mark. Moise Kean scored a second-half double for Fiorentina on Thursday, but three of his four away league goals this season came before half-time.
  • Hot stat: Inter’s Serie A games have averaged a pre-round league-high 3.39 goals per match.
