Empoli – Torino Predictions and Preview
- After their victory in the Coppa Italia against Fiorentina, Empoli showed their best performance yet by defeating Verona 4-1 in the first half. This result gives Roberto D’Aversa’s team a chance to achieve three competitive wins in a row for the first time this season. However, they will have to break new ground as they have not achieved consecutive league wins so far. Their previous three such victories were followed by draws.
- To make a statement, Empoli will need to win two consecutive home games against Torino for the first time since May 2016, following their 3-2 victory here last season. The primary challenge for the hosts is to improve their recent form at Stadio Carlo Castellani. This season, they have won only one out of seven home league games (four draws, two losses), which is below par for a team that wants to move up the table.
- Torino have already lost to Empoli 2-1 in the Coppa Italia earlier in the season. That defeat was the first in a run of 11 games that yielded just one competitive win (two draws, eight losses). Despite such poor recent results, the Bulls are just three points behind their hosts and could replace them in the top half with a win! Scoring in ten consecutive home games should boost their belief that they have a chance, but extending that run on current form looks a tall order. Paolo Vanoli’s side has failed to score in five of their last six games (two draws, four losses).
- This barren scoring run included their last three away matches. However, their 0-0 draw against Genoa in their last such game did at least end a four-match losing away league run. Torino could be focusing on improving their starts, as five of their last six away games saw them concede at least once before half-time, four times earlier than the 30th minute.
- Players to watch: Sebastiano Esposito could look to strike early for Empoli. His last three goals were scored before the 20th minute. On the other hand, Torino’s Ché Adams prefers to take his time to make an impact. His last three club goals arrived beyond the hour mark.
- Hot stat: Just one of Torino’s last seven games saw both teams score.
