Crystal Palace – Luton Predictions and Preview
- It has been a mixed start to life under new head coach Oliver Glasner for Crystal Palace, who followed a 3-0 victory over Burnley with a 3-1 defeat at Tottenham, conceding three times in 11 minutes despite having previously taken the lead! An eight-point buffer to the drop zone and upcoming opponents Luton should give the Austrian breathing space to implement his ideas as he looks to steer the Eagles to safety.
- Maintaining their home form would be a good start, as Palace have won three of their last four Premier League outings at Selhurst Park (L1), scoring exactly three times in each. Glasner’s men may have revenge on their minds here having lost the reverse fixture 2-1 in November, part of a sequence of four losses from their five most recent H2H clashes (W1).
- A repeat of that result would be cherished by visiting manager Rob Edwards, who saw his side lose four consecutive league matches for the first time since the start of the season. The Hatters continue to fight with all of their might, but they were stung by a late goal in a 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa last round, leaving Edwards to call on his players to “defend the final moment better.”
- Battling performances that end in defeat simply won’t cut it for Luton in the run-in if they’re to extend their stay in the top flight. Building on their measly total of two away wins would go some way to bridging their four-point deficit to safety, but as both of those successes came against fellow bottom-half sides, perhaps they can take encouragement into their short trip to Selhurst Park.
- Players to watch: Palace forward Jordan Ayew is enjoying one of his more fruitful campaigns, directly contributing to ten Premier League goals (G4, A6), with three of his four strikes coming on home soil. Luton wing-back Alfie Doughty is a constant source of inspiration, with his six assists in the top-flight this term bettered only by Kieran Trippier and Pedro Porro among other defenders.
- Hot stat: Palace have scored just ten first half Premier League goals this season – only Sheffield United have managed fewer.
