Como – Monza Predictions and Preview

  • Como had a tough time after the international break, losing 2-0 to Fiorentina, a team in good form. This defeat put Cesc Fàbregas’s team in the relegation zone in Serie A. They have not won in seven matches so far (two draws and five losses), making them the only team without a win in the Italian top flight since October.
  • What’s even more worrying is that Como is one of only three teams in Europe’s traditional top-five leagues that have not kept a clean sheet this season. This is a worrying trend, as they were relegated in both their previous top-flight campaigns when they failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their opening 14 matches.
  • This puts extra pressure on their forwards, who scored in each of the 12 home games before the loss to Fiorentina.
  • They welcome Monza, who are also in the relegation zone and one point and one place behind their hosts. Monza have not won in five league matches so far (two draws and three losses). However, they ended a three-match losing streak on their return from the international break, coming from behind to rescue a 1-1 draw with Torino.
  • Boss Alessandro Nesta remains under pressure because Monza have now won just one of their last 22 top-flight matches (nine draws and 12 losses). Their only victory came away from home — a resounding 3-0 win over Verona — and the only teams that have beaten them on their travels this season are the league’s top two sides, Napoli and Atalanta.
  • Monza may be confident of continuing their good form because they have lost just one of the last nine league games played at home (five wins and three draws), although that came in the most recent meeting (2-0).
  • Players to watch: Como will be hoping that Patrick Cutrone can rediscover his touch in front of goal. They have avoided defeat in the last 13 league games he has scored in (seven wins and six draws).
  • Dany Mota, who almost single-handedly earned Monza that victory over Verona with a brace, could try to steal the headlines. He also scored twice the last time they beat Como 3-2 in November 2021.
  • Hot stat: Como have conceded first ten times this Serie A season, a joint league high before the weekend.
