Celta Vigo – Valladolid Predictions and Preview

  • During the international break, much of the news about Celta Vigo has been about them being one of the only two teams in La Liga to use the controversial “dynamic pricing” for tickets. Celta fans may feel that they haven’t received much value for their money this season, especially after consecutive defeats where they conceded a shocking seven goals.
  • Both of Celta’s league wins this season have been at home, and they would be forgiven for expecting a similar result against Valladolid. Valladolid is a team that the hosts have remained unbeaten against in the last 13 La Liga home matches (W6, D7). This represents Celta’s longest current unbeaten run at home against any opponent in the top-flight. Their current eight-match unbeaten streak in top-flight home games (W6, D2) is their longest since 2018.
  • Like their hosts, Valladolid has had a mixed start to this La Liga campaign (W1, D1, L2). However, they are without a win since their opening-weekend victory over Espanyol. Last season’s La Liga 2 runners-up are looking to avoid making it five seasons in a row of being either promoted or relegated. However, their goalshy nature is proving to be a problem as they have not found the net in 337 regulation minutes.
  • This barren run was bookended by a 7-0 defeat against Barcelona ahead of the international break. This means that Valladolid has faced the most brutal return to La Liga’s away schedule by conceding ten unanswered goals across two trips to Barcelona and Real Madrid. This trip represents an easier challenge on paper, but any top-flight trip will prove a mammoth task for a team who have won just two of their last 17 such games (D2, L13).
  • Players to watch: Celta full-back Óscar Mingueza leads the way for league goal contributions at the club (G2, A3). This is incredibly impressive, considering that this is his best season in that regard after just four games. For Valladolid, Raul Moro remains the only player to score for the club this season (G1). His goal in a 1-0 win means that all of his goals since moving to the club were match openers.
  • Hot stat: Celta remain unbeaten in 81% of their home league games as pre-match favourites since the start of last season (W7, D6, L3).
