Bodo/Glimt – Qarabag Predictions and Preview
- The reigning Eliteserien champions and current leaders, Bodø/Glimt, have made a fantastic start to their UEFA Europa League (UEL) campaign. They have picked up seven points from their opening three games (two wins and one draw). These two victories were by a single goal margin, showing the Norwegian team’s ability to grind out wins. They now seem well-positioned to progress beyond the league phase of Europe’s second-tier competition.
- After such a positive start, the goal for Kjetil Knutsen’s side is to break into the top eight of the UEL and reach the knockout stage. A victory here could well propel Glimt into one of those automatic qualification spots. And having beaten Braga on matchday three, another success would see them record consecutive wins in the main draw of the competition for the very first time.
- Azerbaijan Premier League champions Qarabağ will be the visitors on Thursday night, traveling to Norway in search of their first points in the UEL. Currently, they are at the bottom of the league-phase table, having lost all three matches. After three games, they have conceded more goals than anyone else in the competition (eight) while scoring just once.
- Despite their struggles in Europe this season, Qarabağ have been dominant domestically. Despite their current form, they may fancy their chances of earning UEL points this week. The Horsemen have done well in their previous five meetings with Norwegian teams (two wins, two draws, one loss). They achieved a 2-2 draw in the same competition last term in the Scandinavian nation against Molde.
- Players to watch: Including qualifiers, Ulrik Saltnes has six goal involvements (two goals and four assists) in continental competitions so far this season, with five of them coming on home soil. Toral Bayramov, a Qarabağ player, has scored four times in his last six appearances for club and country. He already has two European goals this term, although both of them came in the team’s failed attempt to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
- Hot stat: Across the six league-phase games played by these two sides, five red cards have been shown!
