Austria – Slovenia Predictions and Preview
- The top three teams in UEFA Nations League Group B3 are separated by only three points. On Sunday evening, Austria will host Slovenia in Vienna, and there is still a lot at stake.
- Austria, led by Ralf Rangnick, starts the final round at the top of the table. If they win this game, they will immediately return to League A. However, they could also finish third, which would put them in the relegation play-offs.
- Austria had a slow start to the season. They played their first two games away and only got one point from the fixtures in Ljubljana and Oslo. But then they had two home games in Linz, winning 4-1 against Kazakhstan and 5-1 against Norway. If they get three points on Sunday, it will make it six consecutive victories on home soil.
- Slovenia, who are in third place, can still finish second with a win and claim a promotion play-off position if Norway doesn’t lose. However, they have lost both their home games against Norway, so topping the table is out of the question. Their home-and-away record against Austria is also poor. They lost all three matches in 2018 and 2019 without scoring, and although they drew 1-1 in September, they haven’t beaten Austria since 1999!
- Matjaž Kek and his team arrive in Vienna after losing 4-1 at home against Norway on Thursday evening. But their away form over the last two years should give them some encouragement. They have won six of their last ten games on their travels (D1, L3).
- Players to watch:
- * Michael Gregoritsch has scored in his last three Austria appearances. He will be trying to score four goals in a row for the first time at international level in this game.
* Benjamin Šeško has scored five of Slovenia’s six goals in this UNL campaign. Four of them came before half-time, including in September’s H2H in Ljubljana. - Hot stat: Austria have conceded after half-time in only one of their last nine home games (W7, D1, L1).
