Albania – Ukraine Predictions and Preview
- As we approach the final round of fixtures in the UEFA Nations League (UNL), Group B1 is in a delicate position. Albania and Ukraine, currently in third and fourth places respectively, are still in the running for promotion and relegation. A win for either team would at least guarantee a second-place finish, which would entrant them into the promotion play-offs. However, for Albania, the ultimate goal is to secure the top spot and achieve automatic promotion.
- Albania have scored just three goals in their five UNL matches so far, but they are just missing out on a top-two finish due to their goal difference. With seven points (two wins, one draw, two losses), they are riding high after a goalless draw against the Czech Republic. Another point here could be enough to break into the top two and keep their hopes of a second promotion alive. For that to happen, Sylvinho’s side would have to rely on the Czechs beating Georgia in the other game of the group.
- Ukraine, currently two points behind Albania and second-placed Georgia, must win in Tirana to avoid automatic relegation to Division C for the first time in UNL history. Under Serhiy Rebrov’s leadership, Ukraine lost their first two games of the campaign but are now on a three-match unbeaten run (one win, two draws) and have scored exactly one goal in every game of that sequence.
- A victory would give them a chance to break into the top two, depending on the result in the other game, however, their recent form has been inconsistent. Ukraine have won just three of their last 11 matches (four draws, four losses), conceding two or more goals in all four defeats during that run, including in September’s reverse fixture against Albania (2-1).
- Key battle: Thomas Strakosha has made two or more saves in all five of Albania’s UNL games so far in this campaign. Mykhailo Mudryk will be looking to beat him here. He has two goal involvements in his last three UNL appearances (one goal, one assist), with both coming in the first half.
- Hot stat: The last four head-to-head matches have seen 3+ match goals scored, with both teams scoring on each occasion.
