Alaves – Girona Predictions and Preview
**Alavés and Girona: The Battle for Second Place**
- After being promoted last season, Alavés secured their safety with four games left to spare. They achieved this by winning impressively against Valencia in their last game. This victory marked the second time in the calendar year that Alavés has won three La Liga games in a row. They did so in style, keeping clean sheets in all three matches and scoring six goals overall.
- No Alavés team has achieved a top-half finish in La Liga since the 2016/17 campaign. Manager Luis García will want his current team to set a new standard for the upcoming season. To achieve this, they need to take points from two of the top three teams, including their opponents on Friday night, Girona. Girona defeated Alavés with a 3-0 score back in December, which was the worst defeat of the season for Alavés.
- Girona, led by Míchel, has been in great form this season. They have already secured UEFA Champions League (UCL) qualification for the first time ever and recently regained control in the battle for second place with a resounding 4-2 victory against Barcelona last weekend.
- Girona has won four of their last five matches (L1), including the victory against Barcelona, which marked the ninth game this season in La Liga where they scored 4+ times. On average, they score more than twice per game, with their 34 league games this season yielding an average of 3.38 goals – the highest tally of any team in the division. Entertainment is set to be on the cards here.
**Players to Watch**
- Carlos Benavídez has had 14 shots in La Liga all season for Alavés — six of those have come in the last three games, and he has scored with two of them.
- Artem Dovbyk has been Girona’s go-to man all season. With six goals as well as an assist in their most recent five outings, he is in terrific form.
**Hot Stat**
- Girona has scored in both halves away from home six times already this season in La Liga. Only Barcelona (nine) has a better record.
