AC Milan – Crvena Zvezda Predictions and Preview

  • AC Milan, the Italian football club, finished matchday five of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) league phase just inside the top 16 after winning their last three European matches and scoring three goals in each one. However, they were defeated by Atalanta 2-1 on Friday, which was a setback.
  • After the game, manager Paulo Fonseca accused the referee of showing a lack of respect towards Milan. He felt that a number of recent decisions had gone against his team, which caused the defeat.
  • Milan’s return to Europe to play against Red Star Belgrade, a team they have been unbeaten against, might be a welcome distraction from their underwhelming Serie A campaign. The Rossoneri want to win four consecutive UCL games for the first time since reaching the final in 2005. However, their recent European form at the San Siro stadium has been patchy (W2, L2).
  • Red Star Belgrade are in the bottom quarter of the standings and running out of time to qualify for the knockouts. They have won one game and lost four so far in the UCL. But on matchday five, they finally ended their 14-match winless streak in this competition by beating Stuttgart 5-1. Since then, they have won their three league games, including another goalfest on Saturday when they scored six goals against Tekstilac Odžaci without reply.
  • Although they won the European Cup in Bari in 1991, Italy has not been kind to Red Star. They have won just one of their 14 European away games in the country (D4, L9).
  • Red Star have lost all 11 previous UCL group/league phase games on the road and conceded an average of 3.67 goals per game in European away games this season (L3).
  • Players to watch:
  • * AC Milan’s Rafael Leão has three goal contributions across his last four appearances (G2, A1), including a goal against Slovan Bratislava on matchday five. No Milan player has more goal contributions (G5, A4) in Europe since the start of last term.
  • * Aleksandar Katai has scored between half-time and the 65th minute in two of Red Star’s last three games.
  • Hot stat:
  • * Seven of Milan’s last eight UCL games saw both teams score.
