MATCH PREVIEW

It’s a battle of the basement as La Liga’s (LL) worst home side, Rayo Vallecano (19th), host struggling Athletic Bilbao (17th) – a team without a competitive away win since April.
Vallecano have found it hard adjusting to top-flight life, and are one of five LL teams yet to register a home victory (D1, L3). Yet they have still managed to score in each of their four home games, albeit leaking 13 goals in the process – more than any other LL side on their own turf.
This game could be a good chance to obtain that elusive first three home points though, as the last time Bilbao kept an away league clean sheet was back in December 2017.
The visitors are, however, fast becoming LL’s draw specialists, drawing five of their last eight top-flight games. That includes each of their three away fixtures, all of which were score draws.
Travelling fans can usually expect a goal. The Basque outfit have scored in each of their last seven LL away fixtures, netting exactly one in five of those.
If recent history is to be repeated, expect goals. Over 2.5 have been scored in the last five H2H encounters held here, with Bilbao winning three of those (W3, D1, L1).
Players to watch: With three goals in his last five games, Raul De Tomas is Vallecano’s top scorer.
Iñaki Williams scored Bilbao’s equaliser against Eibar on Sunday – he also scored the winner in his team’s last meeting with Vallecano.
Stat attack: There have been a total of 31 yellow cards (an average of 6.2 per match) and three reds shown in Vallecano’s last five LL matches.
Bilbao have been winning at half-time and drawing at full-time in three of their league games – the highest ratio of any LL team.
Both teams have scored in seven of Bilbao’s eight top-flight games.
