Bordeaux still languish in the bottom-half of the table after finding just their second win of the season away to Guingamp at the weekend. However that was the second Ligue 1 (L1) game in a row that Éric Bedouet’s side had scored three, after picking up just two goals combined from their first four league fixtures.
Here, they face Lille, a team Bordeaux have lost to just once in their last 11 (W5, D5, L1) top-flight home encounters. But goals may not be guaranteed – just two of the last eight league H2Hs (home and away) have produced three or more.
Lille have been the league’s surprise package this season, winning four of their six fixtures (W4, D1, L1) and are flying high in second-place – their best start to a L1 season since 1952.
Attacking-wise, the visitors are second in the league for average shots per game (14.5), but have also built their recent success on a solid defence – they are joint-second for the fewest goals conceded (five).
Players to watch: François Kamano (Bordeaux) has found the back of the net four times in his last five L1 matches, and scored a first-half double last time these teams met.
Ivorian Nicolas Pepe (Lille) has had a superb start to the season, and has attracted the attention of Barcelona after grabbing four goals and three assists so far.
Stat attack: Eight of the 12 league matches involving these clubs this season, produced three or more total goals.
There have been three or more total goals scored in all but two of Bordeaux’s last ten L1 games.
There have been three or more total goals scored in all but two of Lille’s last 13 L1 matches.
Both sides have averaged two yellow cards per league game – only Nantes and Nice have averaged more.
