Luton – Millwall Predictions and Preview

  • Manager Rob Edwards admits he can “sleep a little easier” now after Luton ended their four match winless run across all competitions (D2, L2) with a 1-0 win over Birmingham on Saturday. That narrow away victory courtesy of a Carlton Morris’ goal kept them in the Championship play-off positions, but with just 22 of their 53-point haul coming at home, Edwards will know they need to perform better at Kenilworth Road ahead of back-to-back fixtures here, starting with Millwall.
  • The Birmingham victory came at a cost though, with top-scorer Morris ending up in hospital having an x-ray on a shoulder injury. That comes as a huge blow to Town, who are looking to reach the English top-flight for the first time in over 30 years, especially as they are already struggling to score goals, failing to find the net more than once in any of their last seven league and cup outings (W3, D2, L2).
  • Their lack of potency in the final third means visitors Millwall head to Kenilworth Road level on points with Luton, but above them in the table on goals scored! Yet a superb H2H record in recent matches that has seen them lose just two of the last 16 meetings (W9, D5), keeping an impressive seven clean sheets in the process, will give them hope of creating some daylight between themselves and their hosts.
  • Gary Rowett’s side also prevented Stoke from scoring at the weekend, as they notched up a sixth victory in their last 11 league matches (D3, L2) via a 1-0 win. The manager described their performance at the Bet365 Stadium as “ugly”, but with four of their last five away games seeing a 1-0 win either way, entertainment generally seems to be in short supply on their travels. There has been a noticeable uptick in their away form though, with five wins from their last eight trips helping them to already record more away Championship victories (6) than in the entirety of last season (5).
  • Key battle: Luton defender Tom Lockyer has registered just one win in six H2H meetings with Millwall, helping his side keep just one clean sheet in the process (D1, L4). He may be trying to thwart striker Zian Flemming, who ended an 11-game goal drought by netting against Stoke on Saturday, and has still never lost when scoring for Millwall (W6, D2).
  • Hot stat: Luton have scored more goals in the opening 15 minutes of league matches this season (12) than any other Championship side.
