Brighton – Leeds Predictions and PREVIEW

  • This battle of the Premier League (PL)’s early high flyers sees Brighton (W2, D1) looking to top the league, results pending elsewhere, for the first time since attaining promotion back in 2017. The Seagulls passed up that opportunity last September, but now with home advantage against Leeds United and no loss in five games at the AMEX Stadium (W2, D3), the opportunity is theirs to lose!
  • Brighton boss Graham Potter’s team talks are clearly working, as the wins in Brighton’s current unbeaten home run play part of a proud run which has seen them net twice or more in each of their previous eight home league victories. Against Leeds though, it’s Brighton’s defence which has shone, shutting the Whites out on three occasions since the start of Leeds’ current PL tenure (W2, D2).
  • Leeds will be in no mood to see that winless H2H run extended, and after thrashing Chelsea 3-0 last Sunday, they themselves could reach the PL summit for the first time since August 2002. So too is there the opportunity for Leeds to go unbeaten in their opening four matches to a PL season, something last done by any Whites team back in 2001/02 en-route to their most recent European placing.
  • Coach Jesse Marsch vowed after the Chelsea game that his team would “always attack”, and more of the same should be expected on the back of just one defeat in six PL away games (W3, D2). The three wins show the benefits of Marsch’s attacking approach, particularly in the latter stages, with Leeds scoring twice or more after half-time in four of those six PL away games.
  • Players to watch: Alexis Mac Allister scored from the spot in Brighton’s last league win, making three of his last four goals match openers before half-time. Meanwhile, Rodrigo could become the first-ever Leeds player to net in the opening four matchdays of a PL season.
  • Hot stat: Eight of Leeds’ 11 PL away wins recorded since the start of 2021 have seen both teams score.
