• An impressive 2-0 victory over Brighton on Friday night saw Brentford end a three-game winless run (D1, L2) and sneak back into the top half of the Premier League (PL) table. They will now aim to build on that in this midweek clash, although such games have often proven tough for Thomas Frank’s men to perform in given the Bees have failed to win across their last six midweek PL matches (D1, L5).
• While the goals have dried up across Brentford’s recent winless run, their two against Brighton took their total for the campaign to 18, which is six more than they’d scored at this stage of last season, and a tally which only four sides can better coming into the round.
