Norwich – Millwall Predictions
- Dean Smith’s changes paid dividends as Norwich City recorded a 2-1 win over Huddersfield last time out, for their first win of the campaign (D1, L2). It seemed like only a matter of time, with the Canaries now hitting an incredible 68 shots but scoring only four league goals, and whilst that 6% conversion rate isn’t ideal, Norwich may reignite dreams of a third consecutive title at this level if they can start netting again.
- While they undoubtedly possess the ‘X factor’ in terms of personnel, a home encounter with Millwall does not come without risks. Even during Norwich’s last title-winning Championship campaign in 2020/21 the Canaries did not end as the strongest home side and a stubborn Lions outfit held them level at Carrow Road (0-0), in a result that ended a run of five straight H2H away defeats for Millwall.
- Fellow promotion hopefuls Millwall have looked down and out in their last two games, yet consecutive comebacks from two-goal deficits against Coventry and Swansea (W1, D1) have kept the Lions roaring at the right end of the table. Manager Gary Rowett finds himself in a bit of a pickle though, with Mason Bennett now adding to his list of injury woes in the attacking department.
- Perhaps Rowett will look to improve his backline as his side have no away clean sheets since March (D4, L4), with the shutout against Norwich in Millwall’s last away visit actually their first clean sheet at Carrow Road in 18 years! Whatever happens, Millwall will fancy their chances after avoiding defeat in two of the three away league games they played at relegated opponents last term (W1, D1).
- Players to watch: Danel Sinani has lit up the pitch for Norwich, both scoring and assisting in both of his starts since making his summer switch from Huddersfield. As for Millwall, Benik Afobe was not on the winning side in seven of his last 12 scoring appearances, yet he’s only lost once against Norwich (W2, D2, L1).
- Hot stat: Millwall’s league games have averaged two goals per first half, and none of them were level at the break (HT: W1, L3).
