Lyon’s Troubling Start to the Season

• Lyon has had a disastrous start to the 2024/25 season, losing to Rennes and Monaco without scoring a single goal. This is the first time since 1992/93 that the team has failed to score in their first three league matches of a season. Fans are concerned that the team may repeat the disastrous start of last season, when both Laurent Blanc and Fabio Grosso lost their jobs before December.

• Georges Mikautadze is looking to shine with Lyon after joining from Metz. He directly contributed to 18 goals in 22 matches, scoring 14 goals and assisting four. One of his goals came against Strasbourg, the only one of his last seven club goals to arrive after the 50th minute.
• Andrey Santos has returned to Strasbourg after an impressive loan spell from Chelsea last term. He scored the opener in the 3-1 win over Rennes on Sunday, four of his last five club strikes being headers.
