AS Roma – Eintracht Frankfurt Predictions and Preview
- Roma’s path to the knockout round play-offs of the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League is far from certain, and they have a lot to play for against Eintracht Frankfurt in this final group stage round. After a 1-0 away defeat to AZ Alkmaar last week, the Giallorossi start this round in 21st place, and with only the top 24 teams staying in the competition, they must win to secure their place in the UEL.
- The defeat against Alkmaar was Roma’s first in the UEL since Claudio Ranieri took over in mid-November. Since then, his team has been in great form, winning seven games and drawing two, including a victory at Udinese at the weekend. Roma has been particularly strong at home, winning six straight matches there. In Europe alone, the Italians have lost just three of their last 45 major European home games, with 33 wins and 9 draws.
- However, their last defeat was against German opposition, so the Eagles, who are third in the Bundesliga and start this UEL round in second place, should not be taken lightly. In Europe, they have won five of their last six matches (with one loss), and in 2025, they have four victories from their five fixtures (with one draw) across all competitions. Only a last-minute equaliser from Hoffenheim on Sunday ended their winning streak.
- But Frankfurt did sell star forward Omar Marmoush, who scored in all three of their UEL away matches before Christmas, to Manchester City last week. It will be interesting to see how they fare in their first European trip without him. Fortunately for Frankfurt, most of their work is already done, as it would require a remarkable set of results to knock Dino Toppmöller’s side out of the top eight and derail their quest to lift the trophy for the second time in four seasons.
- Players to watch:
* Alexis Saelemaekers has been in excellent home form of late, contributing to five goals (three goals and two assists) at the Stadio Olimpico in his last five starts.
* Can Uzun only made his European debut in October but comes into this match after making an impact in his last two UEL appearances (one goal and one assist). - Hot stat: Frankfurt have scored 2+ goals in each of their last six UEL away matches (with five wins and one loss).
