MATCH PREVIEW

After a run of consistently poor defensive displays (L6) that left Fulham at the foot of the table, this match against fellow strugglers Southampton (D3, L3) sees Claudio Ranieri take the Fulham reins following the sacking of Slaviša Jokanović over the international break.
Whether the ‘Tinkerman’ is the right man for the job remains to be seen, with Ranieri commenting; “If I come here it’s because I believe, I’m mad but not stupid.”. A good omen for the hosts is that the former Leicester City boss has won his first game at club level in five of his last six jobs (W5, L1).
Neither side can buy a win at the minute, with Fulham winless in nine (D2, L7), and Southampton in eight (D4, L4). Expect some dodgy attacking – both sides have scored a combined five goals across their last six PL matches (12 in total), respectively.
Southampton could end the day in the bottom three, and are likely to do so if they concede two or more goals as they have done in four of six PL away matches this term. To compound matters further, manager Mark Hughes has a winless record in three fixtures vs Ranieri sides (D2, L1), both draws ended 2-2.
Players to watch: One or the other? Aleksandar Mitrović (five goals) and André Schürrle (four) have contributed 81% of Fulham’s paltry 11 goal tally.
Manolo Gabbiadini got off the mark for the season whilst earning Southampton a draw before the break, he will step up in the absence of top scorer Danny Ings.
Stat attack: Fulham haven’t scored a goal in their last 416 minutes of competitive football.
Similarly, Southampton have failed to score in five of their last seven PL matches.
Fulham have lost just three of the 19 H2H matches between these sides at Craven Cottage (W8, D8, L3 – in all competitions).
