Match Preview

This Rotterdam derby has a one-sided history, with Excelsior rarely making the scoresheet, never mind taking the three points. Most significantly in the context of this local derby, Feyenoord have won to nil in four of the last five H2Hs, with a staggering overall aggregate score of 13-3 across those matches.
Excelsior registered their first victory since November last time out, but remain uncomfortably close to the drop zone. Worryingly, Excelsior’s only two victories since October have come against newly-promoted sides (W2, D1, L7), although 63% of their paltry 19-point tally has been earned here at the Woudestein.
As for Feyenoord, they face their local rivals after destroying Ajax 6-2 in the ‘Klassieker’ on January 27. It was their highest-scoring Klassieker win since 1964, and goals have been the common theme of late, with six of Feyenoord’s last eight matches in all competitions producing over 3.5 total goals.
Visiting manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has also won seven of his eight H2Hs with Excelsior, and is yet to draw against them (W7, L1). However, it is still worth noting that Feyenoord have shipped two goals in each of their last four Eredivisie matches, including their last two away from home (D1, L1).
Players to watch: Excelsior have only registered points since November 30, 2018 when Luigi Bruinshas found the net.
Despite having never played for Excelsior, Feyenoord topscorer and general Dutch hero Robin van Persie (ten goals) has a stand named after him here at the Woudestein.
Stat attack: Half of Excelsior’s home matches this season have produced over 5.5 total goals.
Overall, the Woudestein boasts 4.2 average goals per game, which is the second highest of any stadium in the league.
Three of Feyenoord’s last four away league games have seen them score at least once in the second half.
