Liverpool – Nottingham Predictions and Preview

  • After dropping points in their controversial 2-1 defeat to Tottenham and in a 2-2 draw against Brighton, Liverpool finally got back to winning ways in the Premier League (PL) in the most Kop-pleasing fashion, securing a 2-0 win over Merseyside rivals Everton at Anfield. Jürgen Klopp’s men then went on to further treat their beloved home fans in midweek European action, putting on a five-star performance when mauling Toulouse 5-1 at home.
  • Upcoming opponents Nottingham Forest are the next team to try and spoil the Anfield party, but many like them before have tried and failed, with the Reds unbeaten in their last 16 home PL outings (W13, D3). Indeed history seems firmly against the visitors here, as the last time Liverpool lost at home in the top-flight to a team beginning with ‘N’ was in April 1994, a 1-0 defeat against Norwich, going 40 such matches unbeaten since (W33, D7)!
  • Forest will arrive at Anfield with mixed emotions, as on one hand they’ve lost just one of their last six PL matches, but only won one too (D4). Their last match was particularly disappointing considering they led 2-0 against Luton only to walk away with a point, earning them the unwanted claim of dropping the most PL points from winning positions since the start of last season with 32.
  • Steve Cooper might be happy the points keep coming in at least, as it’s helped his team build a decent buffer over the relegation zone. Leaving Merseyside with anything tangible will be considered quite an upset since they’ve failed to win in any of their last 24 league visits to Anfield (D5, L19), but did manage to pull off a historic 1-0 win at home against Liverpool last season.
  • Players to watch: Diogo Jota netted a brace in this corresponding fixture last season (W 3-2), starting a run of scoring eight of his last ten Liverpool goals at home, including in midweek. In opposition, Morgan Gibbs-White scored and assisted in that eventual 3-2 loss, contributing to 16 of his 21 goals all coming after half-time.
  • Hot stat: Liverpool have won all their home games this season by at least a two-goal margin.
