Hull – Millwall Predictions and Preview

  • Hull City may still be off the relegation radar, but their season is in danger of fading rapidly after Good Friday saw them drop two leads in a pulsating 4-4 draw at Sunderland. In turn, they still have a reputation as ‘draw specialists’ across the past ten rounds (W1, D6, L3), possibly priming them to draw both league H2Hs vs Millwall in a season for the first time since 2005/06.
  • While the Tigers can be toothless at inopportune moments, such as their last home game (0-0 vs Rotherham), they are usually reliable in defence. Impressively, only the now-promoted leaders Burnley have breached Hull across their previous six outings at the MKM Stadium (W3, D2, L1), with the Tigers also ‘winning’ the second half in all three victories.
  • With Friday seeing Millwall held 0-0 by fellow top-six contenders Luton, and the Lions duly registering a third straight blank, they could well play an unwanted part in building on Hull’s proud defensive record on home soil. However, if they win for a third time in five away H2Hs, the South Londoners could end Easter as many as five points clear in the playoff zone.
  • Although Millwall have been goal-shy of late, their return of three 1-0 victories within a seven-game away run that contains just one loss (W4, D2) suggests they’ll be tough to break down if they claim the opening goal. A near-perfect record from road trips where they’ve done so (W7, D1) further underlines this belief for fans of a club now exiled from the English top-flight for 33 years.
  • Key battle: Hull winger Ozan Tufan was nearly five years away from being born the last time Millwall played amongst the elite – he netted first and last on Good Friday for his maiden brace with the Tigers. Aiming to thwart him will be George Long, who could complete a hat-trick of away league shutouts, and emulate Bartosz Bialkowski’s feat of November 2020.
  • Hot stat: Millwall are the only side still yet to concede in a Championship away game between the 31st and 45th minute.
