Everton – Sheffield Utd Predictions and Preview
- Two teams are facing each other here, but neither has much to play for. Everton, as the hosts, have already secured their place in the Premier League for the upcoming season, with plenty of games left. On the other hand, Sheffield United, the visitors, have already secured their spot in the Championship for next season.
- Despite this, Everton’s manager, Sean Dyche, has urged his team to put in a strong performance in their final home game of the season. A positive result would see them go five league games without defeat, which would be their longest unbeaten run of the season.
- The signs are good for Everton to finish the season on a high at the Goodison Park. As they chase their fifth straight home win, they can take comfort in knowing that only one of their final eight home league games has ended in defeat in the last eight campaigns. Each of the last three games has resulted in a win.
- Last week, Sheffield United suffered another defeat at home to Nottingham Forest (3-1). Manager Chris Wilder was frustrated to see his team miss a number of first-half chances. Their defense then collapsed, bringing their total to 100 league goals conceded for the season. In a 38-game English top-flight campaign, only Darwen (112) and Leicester (102) have leaked more goals.
- Without a win in 12 matches, Sheffield United would love to give their dedicated traveling fans something to cheer about. Their record against Everton should inspire hope, as the Blades have won more Premier League away games against the Toffees than against any other opponent (3).
- Key battle: Everton’s goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford (12), needs two more clean sheets to match his best-ever Premier League shutout tally (14 in 2018/19). Despite only joining the team in January, no player from Sheffield United has scored more league goals this season than Ben Brereton Díaz (six), but he has yet to win a game in which he has scored.
- Hot stat: Everton have lost five of their last seven home league games against Sheffield United.
