<li>In a season that is expected to bring up 700 games for Atlético Madrid boss Diego Simeone, he was disappointed with the result of the first match of the season. His team could only draw 2-2 against Villarreal, which was not the desired outcome.</li>
<li>Simeone has spent more than £100 million on improving his squad for this season. He hopes that his team will not concede more goals that could have been avoided. After the disappointing performance against Villarreal, Simeone is concerned about the team&#8217;s defensive showing.</li>
<li>Known for their defensive resilience, Atlético Madrid has kept only one clean sheet from their last six home league games. In their previous game, they won 3-1 against Girona, but they need a repeat result to avoid failing to win in their first two La Liga games of the season for the first time since 2016/17.</li>
<li>Girona, on the other hand, faces the risk of starting their campaign with two winless outings. They drew 1-1 against Real Betis on their opening weekend. Like Atlético, they battled from behind to claim a point. However, another draw here would mean they fail to win either of their opening two La Liga games for only the second time in history. The only other time they did so in 2018/19, they were relegated!</li>
<li>While relegation seems unlikely for the third-place team of the previous season, one win from the eight La Liga H2Hs (D3, L4) could mean they move closer to that negative outcome. On a positive note, they are unbeaten in four away league games (W2, D2). However, they are aware that the last team to beat them on their travels was Atlético Madrid.</li>

<li>&#8211; Alexander Sørloth, a new recruit for Atlético, showcased his aerial prowess on matchday one. Five of his last seven goals have been scored with his head.</li>
<li>&#8211; Bojan Miovski, signed by Girona to replace Artem Dovbyk, will be hoping to get off to a fast start. He has scored in eight of his last ten scoring appearances, opening the scoring in each of them.</li>
