MATCH PREVIEW

League D represents an opportunity for the weakest teams in Europe to regain pride after years of being thrashed in Euro and World Cup (WC) qualifiers. It is an opportunity that traditional ‘whipping boys’ San Marino have yet to take however, with two defeats ahead of this trip to massive favourites Moldova.
It is exactly five years since Moldova last triumphed at home, doing so against none other than San Marino in a 2014 WC qualifier. September 2010 actually remains the last time they beat anyone in Chişinău other than this game’s visitors.
Moldova’s recent overall H2H record against San Marino is very one sided too, with five wins from five since October 2010 – all coming with a clean sheet.
Now winless in 101 matches (home and away), San Marino’s away form makes for horrendous viewing for Sammarinese traveling fans. In a sequence that includes friendlies, the micro-state has lost 42 consecutive matches on the road, last leaving away turf unbeaten in August 2003 – against fellow minnows Liechtenstein (2-2).
That 2003 draw is also the last occasion the visitors scored 2+ goals in any away match. San Marino are also without a clean sheet in 24 fixtures, failing to score in five.
Players to watchVeaceslav Posmac (MOL) scored against San Marino in the last H2H match, while Mirko Palazzi (SAM) is the last man to score for his country, doing so in September 2017.
Stat attack: With friendlies included, Moldova have scored more than once in just one of their last 16 home matches.
San Marino have conceded an average of 5.7 goals per match over their last ten road trips.
Less than 25% of the goals conceded by San Marino in the last five H2H encounters have been shipped in the first-half.
