MATCH PREVIEW

This will be the 127th ‘O Clássico’ in Primera Liga history. The two clubs share a staggering 157 trophies, and though it is Benfica who lead the way 81-76 in that department, it is Porto fans that currently hold every other bragging right imaginable.
Benfica’s overall league record against Porto stands at: W34, D41, L51, though only 22 goals separate them in that sequence (GF 144, GA 166). Speaking of goals, one more failure for Benfica to score here will see them complete a run of eight league Clássicos without a win for just the second time since 2000/01.
Just six months ago, Porto took all three points from the capital in what was the most recent H2H meeting. That 1-0 victory was the sixth league Clássico of the last seven to produce less than 2.5 goals; so too was it the seventh of the last eight to see less than 1.5 goals scored before half-time.
The usual closeness of these matches is reflected further still in the half/full-time department. Neither team has led a league Clássico match by more than a single goal at half-time in 22 of the last 23 attempts (Apr ’07-Apr ’18).
Players to watch: Super sub Semedo! Benfica midfielder Alfa Semedo took just 12 minutes to net the winning goal in midweek (against Greek champions AEK Athens) after leaving the bench.
Hero hotshot Hector Herrera netted a last-minute winner for Porto in the most recent league derby.
Stat attack: Against all opponents, and across all competitions, five of Benfica’s last seven matches have produced over 2.5 goals.
Conversely, each of Porto’s last five competitive matches have seen less than 2.5 goals scored.
Much of this is due to Porto’s ability to hold out for the win after scoring first, doing so (and winning to nil) in their last three league matches.
